    Changes to the MPUK Forums: RSS Feed + Google Toolbar Button

    Evenin' Ladies & Gents,

    I've just enabled the RSS functionality within vBulletin on the MPUK Forums, on a provisional basis. We'll be keeping an eye on the load it puts on the server over the coming days/weeks, and will make changes to the settings (or revoke the service) as appropriate.

    Currently, it will display the last 15 threads, from the last 30 days and results will be cached for 60 minutes (the defaults).

    You can find it located at:

    In addition, if you would like to filter specifically by forum, you can also achieve this by adding the following to your URL: &forumids=1,2,3 (where 1,2 & 3 are the numerical forum id's you would like). Eg, General Chat = 61, Rants & Raves = 67. Put your mouse pointer over the name of the forum on the main index and look in the status bar to find the id you require.

    I've also made a button for those of you who use Internet Explorer and the Google Toolbar (sorry Firefox users, Google Toolbar for FF doesn't support buttons... yet? ).

    It allows you to search the forums from the Toolbar, as well as having the option to highlight text on a webpage and then click the button to search. In addition to this it also has a drop down which contains the 15 most recently active threads. Just clicking the button with no text will take you to the main forum index.

    Click the following to add the MPUK Forums Search to your Google Toolbar!

    It's fairly simple, and as such you shouldn't have any problems with it. If you do however, your feedback below would be appreciated

    Happy New Year,

    Why not make an opensearch plugin, which can be used in FF2 and IE7

    Congratulations, you can use live bookmarks! I'm not sure what you are actually trying to convey as using just punctuation to communicate isn't something I'm familiar with, unless you're talking in morse code.

    I've not seen/used OpenSearch/A9 before, having had a quick look at their site tho it would seem they're trying to achieve a differant objective - primarilly bringing search results from x/y/z websites together on one page. I doubt the MPUK forums are a suitable substitute for Google/About/Wikipedia

    Opera beats all. In my address bar, I type:

    m some multiplay forum search string

    And away it goes.

    <3 Opera. I'm in a weird situation where I use a combo of IE and Op at the moment, it's most bizarre. the smart searching in Opera is awesome tho

    It' just gives people an option from the built in search in FF2 and IE7, rather than installing Google toolbar, or some other toolbar. for example, in FF, instead of the G logo, it could be the MPUK logo.

    And it uses the forums search, not google or a9.

    It would be something like this.

    Code:
    <OpenSearchDescription xmlns="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/"
                           xmlns:moz="http://www.mozilla.org/2006/browser/search/">
    <ShortName>MPUK Forums</ShortName>
    <Description>Search Multiplay Forums</Description>
    <Url type="text/html" method="GET" template="http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/search?{searchterm}"/>
    <InputEncoding>UTF-8</InputEncoding>
    <AdultContent>false</AdultContent>
    <moz:SearchForm>http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/search/</moz:SearchForm>
    </OpenSearchDescription>
    This is assuming it can work with vBulletin

    Hmm, looks possible, I don't have the toolbar installed though. I might have a play over the coming days
