    Setting spawn rates of mobs

After some Google (because it isn't documented on the hMod wiki) I've found that theres a parameter in hMod called natural-spawn-rate that is not put into your server.properties by default.

In your server.properties file you would use it like this:

    natural-spawn-rate=2

now the value is a percentage chance for the mob to spawn, but it is backwards, so 2 = a 98% chance to spawn a mob/animal on a block.

    Therefore:

    natural-spawn-rate=75

means only a 25% chance for a mob to spawn.

This will hopefully take some of the load of your server whilst still allowing monster mobs to spawn at night (just not as many).

I haven't confirmed it works because I can't login to my server from work at the moment but I'll update once I know for sure it works.

We've found, for the most part, that the mobs aren't what are attributing to the lag.

Lag isn't an issue for me, it's CPU usage. It goes sky high when the server is 12+ people and mobs are on. And the past 3 days the server has crashed at more or less the same time (peak time).

Several people have commented on here that turning mobs off brings the CPU usage down and that can only be good right?

I actually found increasing the spawn-rate value increased how often animals are spawned .... I've never seen so many pigs!!

ok setting natural-spawn-rate=75 on my server seems to have helped a bit. there are less mobs around and my cpu is average around 83% insdead of 40% with mobs off. it has gone up as far as 172% still but my server has not crashed over the last 24 hours.

server is 16 slot with 600 mb ram and has been mostly full today.

Everywhere I've read says that the numbers are reversed. I have mine set to 75 which = 25% chance of spawn in game and I've noticed the difference.
