MPUK Beta 1.2 Update & Multiplay Servers

UPDATE: You can now run your Multiplay service with the latest version provided you can live without hMod. See http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/minecr...t-hmod-support for more details!

As I'm sure many of you are aware, the 1.2 Update for Minecraft is about to be released.

Multiplay's services rely on the use of hMod to be able to control the server and provide you with all of the features you find in Clanforge, in particular world management and Live Control/RCON.

We've also experienced in the past that fresh updates of Minecraft are very unstable and any addons you have on your server will break. Basically, a great deal of disruption which can be avoided by not upgrading until key addons have been updated and any base server code bugs can be fixed by Notch.

Because of these reasons we'll be doing the same we did with the last major Minecraft update, and keeping our servers running 1.1 until the release becomes more stable and a hMod/Bukkit version compatible with the new update is released.

To continue playing on your server you'll need to make sure you have the correct version of the client still installed on your machine.

We'll be adding a download that contains the correct files and instructions on how best to use it very soon, so watch this space!

    --

Downgrade to the old version now!

To use this you need to:-
    Instructions:

    1. Make sure your Minecraft is up to date (the beta version at this time).
    2. Open an Explorer Window (Win Key + E) change to the minecraft directory
"%APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin" or "User/Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin" on the MAC, you can do this by pasting it into the address bar (without the quotes)
    3. Delete everything except the version file, and if you're on a MAC leave the "natives" folder, this is what minecraft checks to make sure the client is up to date.
    4. Download this file and extract the contents of the zip to into the bin folder above.

Full Mac instructions are in this post (Thanks to gblax123)

Now you have your Beta files, and your correct version file, which means.. you can now play again!
Just load up MC login as usual and connect up to your MC server, and voila.

anyway you can stop the client auto updating so you can still play on old servers?

As far as I was aware it is not possible to avoid the Minecraft client auto-updating. In order to make a connection to a multiplayer server you have to first connect to minecraft.net, which auto updates the client, with no way to cancel the update.

As the versions no longer match I am unable to connect to the multiplay server, as will anyone else be, unless they had the client open at the time of the update and do not close it at all until you update your servers.

There is a way to downgrade the clients. We'll release the downgrade shortly

Could you not of had this ready prior to the update being rolld out? Or is it something that needs to be done specifically after the patch?

Although prepared for martyrdom, I preferred that it be postponed.
