    The future of winter LAN?

So with the cancellation of December LAN, I can't be the only person thinking what the future of the event is? Is it going to return next year or will Insomnia be held twice a year now?

I appreciate it may be early days, but would be nice to get some info or at least the organizers thoughts.

I personally think it would be nice to continue to have 3 LAN's a year and the winter one was actually one of the ones I look forward to most now I don't work in retail where getting time off to attend is impossible.

    Any info would be nice

Geo does say in https://forums.multiplay.com/insomni...ia-winter-2017! that they are looking for somewhere for next year that is more cost effective, so lets hope something is found, It sounds like they are looking more for LAN than for exhibition in this case, so see what they come up with for next year!

The views expressed in the post above are mine, I am a goose and have no real clue what I wrote above and it being the same as MPUK and GAME is highly unlikely. In other words, dont trust it!

Stop mistaking me with someone who represents GAME or MPUK. It's not hard.

Telford was always a sound venue. Ricoh was good and had great access to stuff like tesco, restaurants, casinos and hotels.

I would love to see winter lan back there. It was cheaper, better food options, more community driven and better for traffic 🙈 (Dont forget free car parking)

This is just me guessing, but I'd suspect part of the problem with any of these venues is that the rate the venue will offer you for doing 3 large events a year with lots of footfall from the expo/day visitors (who spend on food/drink etc) on top of BYOC is much better than the rate they'll offer you for 1 small(er) event a year with no day visitor traffic/hall rental for expo and just BYOC.

So whilst they worked for what Multiplay used to do there, i'm not sure how well that will translate to a single LAN only event.

We moved from The Ricoh to the NEC early. Our first event at the NEC was a Winter LAN (i56). I wouldn't mind going back to The Ricoh, the EON Lounge was quite nice. It was comfortable with the air conditioning and the carpeted floor. It was also a nice refuge up in the clouds away from the expo when you wanted to get some quiet time. I just don't see us going back though. Coventry City and The Wasps moved in during our tenure and our events caused disruption to their league matches.

Of course, if we're just a LAN without expo we probably wouldn't disrupt them that much.
